Mr Daveport, ERRC Rescue Swimmer, helping migrants off the sinking boat.

The past days were busy for the ERRC rescue swimmers deployed with the Migrant Offshore Aid Station (MOAS). Mr Tim Brown, a volunteer rescue swimmer from the Lagan Search and Rescue was replaced with Mr Akos Ferenc Varga, an ERRC rescue Swimmer, on the 4 January this year.

Yesterday alone, ERRC rescue swimmers, with the collaboration of MOAS, rescued 55 people, from a boat meant for only 25 off the coast of Agathonisi. Although the operation was extremely challenging due to terrible sea conditions and persistent rain, all hands were on deck to bring people on board to safety.

"After the fear & shock, a feeling of relief & safety" one migrant said.
