ERRC signs MoU with the Canadian International Rescue Organisation and Lagan Search and Rescue

Between the 9 and 15 April, a delegation of five from the Canadian International Search and Rescue Organisation once again were in Gozo to deliver Search and Rescue Training to ERRC volunteers as well as members of the Malta Police, Civil Protection Department and the Lagan Search and Rescue. In due course a group of ERRC volunteers, who had already done the Ground Search and Rescue Course, were appointed GSAR instructors following a train the trainer course. In return, the Emergency Response and Rescue Corps instructors run a Trauma First Response Course in parrallel to the Ground Search and Rescue to members of the Malta Police, Canadian International Search and Rescue, Lagan Search and Rescue and the Civil Protection Department.

The course included airway management with oxygen and in depth knowledge on how to handle patients who suffered from trauma. On Saturday, 16 April, when the training was over, Hon Minister Minister for Home Affairs and National Security Carmelo Abela, presentated the course certificates to all members who took part in the training program during a certificate presentation ceremony held in Valletta.

During the ceremony the Emergency Response and Rescue Corps signed two Memorandum of Understandings with the Canadian International Search and Rescue and the Lagan Search and Rescue. This five year agreement covers training programs and volunteer exchange between the organisations. Hon Abela stated that this MoU is an important tool by which the ERRC could share its rescue practices and at the same time develop new skills from other organisations.
