Today, the Emergency Response and Rescue Corps started lifeguarding service on two beaches in Comino; the Blue Lagoon and Santa Marija Bay. In both beaches, E.R.R.C. lifeguards are stationed on the lifeguarding tower at the centre, and emergencies are also covered with the support of the hydro ambulance Lifesaver 1, which is usually stationed at the Blue Lagoon or periodically patrolling the area. The Hydro ambulance is essential for the provision of prompt transportation to Mgarr or Cirkewwa Harbours.
The lifeguarding service at the Blue Lagoon in Comino is possible due to financial support from the Malta Tourist Authority. Support is also being provided by the Ministry for Gozo, Mgarr Marina, Transport Malta, Police, Armed Forces of Malta, Police and the Civil Protection Department.
